2018
Thomposon Road Reservoir, Napier

This is the main concrete drinking water structure for Napier residents. The original sheet membrane was tearing off and subject to vandalism. This was also letting water debris and airborne microorganisms into the water supply. The responsibility of the Napier City Council is to provide its residents with reliable high quality water for consumption.

Project Requirements

  • The solution needed to be tough, resilient, durable and resistant to vandalism
  • It needed to be aesthetically pleasing to neighbours who have a clear view of the roof
  • Sika® waterproofing membranes had to be installed while the tank was still full to avoid outgassing and potential failure during the application phase
  • Sarnafil® ticked all the boxes and offered the Napier City Council the peace of mind that it would provide a long term solution

Challenges

  • Sika® waterproofing membranes had to be installed before the peak water demand over the Christmas and summer periods
  • Initial tests showed high amounts of outgassing from the concrete substrate which ruled out liquid applied options

Project Size

550 m²
