2021
Victoria University, Wellington

The University was founded in 1897 and teaching began in April 1899 with 115 students enrolled in the first year. The University has grown to a network of 5 campuses in Wellington. The Twin Buildings are a part of the Kelburn Campus.

Project Requirements

The roofs of the Twin Buildings had started to leak, affecting the spaces below. Victoria University wanted to re-roof both areas but keep the existing torch-on roofing substrate for the lower roof.

Challenges

  • High wind loadings
  • Minimal noise was required, as there are classrooms below
  • Existing roofs could not be exposed to weather for extended periods in case of a change in weather conditions

Sika Solution

Sika was able to offer a complete supplier and installer solution for the client.

  • Top plant room roof - Sarnafil S 327-20 L sheet roofing membrane was applied over polystyrene insulation to the valleys in the roof
  • Lower top floor Roof – Sika Index Proteaduo Triarmato (Sika Index torch on membrane) was applied over polystyrene insulation
