Emseal's seismic-rated expansion joints are critical for building enclosure performance. They ensure watertightness at the deck surface, non-invasive anchoring to the joint substrate, and anchoring of the expansion joint covers. The system innovation is built on principles that ensure continuity of seal at curbs and parapets, providing bridge preservation by protecting the piers and beams of the underlying structure. Emseal offers all-in-one water, seismic, acoustic, and fire-rated expansion joints that perform to strict fire resistance test methods for fire barriers. Sika Emseal also provide a complete offering to handle various traffic in parking garage and stadium expansion joint applications.

New Zealand is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire. This means that New Zealand is prone to earthquakes resulting in significant peak ground acceleration (PGA), in parts over 1.0g. These large magnitude earthquakes resulted in significant devastation of buildings and infrastructure.

As a result of the devasting Christchurch earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, very stringent building codes across New Zealand have been implemented in an order to mitigate earthquake damage. It is compulsory to use only seismically tested and approved construction anchors in New Zealand, especially in concrete connections and structural components.

If you require a seismic anchor for your project, you now need to use a C2 Rated anchoring adhesive for all New Zealand locations.  Check out Sika AnchorFix-2022 for this requirement.
