Usage

Sikasil® Wet Areas is a highly durable silicone rubber that has excellent long term performance in wet areas where there is high humidity, including commercial and residential bathrooms and toilets, showers and wash down areas, kitchens and laundries.  Sikasil® Wet Areas has good resistance to the growth of mould and fungus on its surface. It is highly elastic and flexible and has very strong adhesion to a wide variety of “wet room” surfaces including:
  • Porcelain whiteware and fittings
  • Painted surfaces
  • Ceramic tiles and grouts
  • Glass
  • Plastic laminates
  • Stainless steel
  • Rigid PVC, acrylics, polycarbonate

Joint Design

The sealant joint width should be designed to accommodate the movement capability of the sealant. In general, minimum joint width should be 6 mm. For joints between 6 – 12 mm wide, a seal depth of 6mm is recommended. For joints greater than 12 mm wide, a width to depth ratio of 2 : 1 is recommended.

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from loose particles, grease and dirt. Degrease surface with Sika Thinner C if necessary. Allow the surface to dry (i.e. the solvent to fully evaporate) before proceeding.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Uncured material can be removed by using a suitable solvent or an approved sealant remover such as Sika Thinner C, Acetone or MEK. Cured material may be removed by abrasion or other mechanical means.
