Sika South Africa supports the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) to build the new seabird hospital in Table View (Cape Town). Sika's sealers and hydrophilic waterproofing strips for the pools serve as an important component of the new seabird hospital.

Since its inception almost 50 years ago, SANCCOB has been synonymous with African penguins, the only penguin species to occur naturally on the African continent. The organisation has treated more than 95 000 oiled, ill, injured and abandoned African penguins and has responded to every oil spill along the southern African coastline.

Through dedicated staff and volunteers, the SANCCOB is a leader in seabird rehabilitation, chick-rearing and specialist veterinary care. The organisation partners with the Department of Environmental Affairs, SANParks, CapeNature and Robben Island Museum to conserve seabirds in southern Africa.

The new hospital will improve its standard of care and capacity to save as many birds as possible, and allow SANCCOB to save more seabirds, improve its standard of care and educate more people about the plight of seabirds.
